The CalSTRS Medicare Premium Payment Program is available to eligible members who retire prior to July 1, 2012. The program pays for Medicare Part A premiums ($450 in 2011) for retired members who are not otherwise eligible for premium-free Medicare.

A new self-assessment tool enables active members to determine their eligibility and make a decision to retire, perhaps sooner than planned, and participate in the program.
